What Are Lip Injections?

Lip enhancement, known as lip augmentation, is a popular option for men and women who want fuller lips. The treatment is most often desired by those who have thin lips and want more definition, but we also meet patients who are inspired by celebrities to have full, voluptuous lips. Traditionally, lip augmentation was performed using silicone implants, but now patients can choose lip injections.

What Are the Benefits of Lip Injections?

  • Greater precision and personalization compared to silicone implants
  • No downtime
  • No surgery required
  • Change your look with each maintenance treatment
  • May reduce vertical lip lines, asymmetry and other minor flaws

Who is a Good Candidate for Lip Injections?

Dr. Ayala uses Juvéderm® Volbella and Restylane® Silk for lip injection treatments. Both injectables contain hyaluronic acid, a substance that occurs naturally in the human body. As such, these treatments are considered beneficial for most patients.

What is the Procedure for Lip Injections?

Dr. Ayala uses a cannula for lip injections. The benefits of the technique are:

  • Reduced risk of damaging surrounding tissues, such as veins and arteries
  • More consistent distribution of the injectable gel
  • Allows for precise control over the amount of enhancement

The cannula is a blunt-tipped tool that penetrates the skin through an opening that is made by a needle. The opening is small enough to heal almost immediately after the cannula is withdrawn from the skin. Once the cannula reaches the deep layers of skin, Dr. Ayala carefully deposits the injectable gel to give lift to the tissues of the lips.

What is Recovery Like After Lip Injections?

No downtime is required after our lip injections. Compared to administering fillers with needles, the post-treatment symptoms are less likely and less uncomfortable. You may have some very minor swelling and bruising for the first day after the treatment.

How Much Do Lip Injections Cost?

The cost of lip injections by Dr. Ayala varies, so we prefer to discuss this aspect of your care after the consultation. Prior to the appointment, feel free to learn about our financing options through Prosper® and CareCredit®.
