Most patients researching nonsurgical skin tightening end up doing the same thing: comparing device names. Morpheus8 vs. CoolSculpting vs. Legend Pro vs. whatever their friend got at a med spa two towns over. And that makes sense. When you’re spending money on your appearance, you want to know the technology is sound.
But the technology is only one part of the equation. A skin-tightening platform is a tool, and the results you get depend on who’s using it, how they’re using it, and whether they have the clinical judgment to match the right technology to your specific concern. The problem is, not every device is built to let them do that.
The Legend Pro is.
Where many skin tightening systems are designed to run on autopilot, the Legend Pro puts the provider in the driver’s seat for every pass. It’s the reason Dr. Carlos Ayala chose to add it to his practice at Ayala ENT & Facial Plastic Surgery in McAllen, Texas, and the reason patients are consistently impressed with their results.
What Makes the Legend Pro Different From Other Devices?
The short answer: most radiofrequency (RF) devices do one thing. The Legend Pro does several.
As a 4-in-1 RF platform manufactured by Lumenis, it includes different handpieces and technologies that can be used to tighten skin, contour the body, improve sun damage and even reduce the appearance of cellulite, giving your provider more than one way to approach the concern you came in with.
That flexibility allows for a more layered, personalized approach to skin tightening and body contouring. For a practice led by a double board-certified surgeon who spent more than two decades in the military before coming to the Rio Grande Valley, that ability to assess, adapt and stay in control fits the way Dr. Ayala expects treatment to be delivered.
Is Legend Pro a Microneedling Treatment?
Yes and no.
VoluDerm, one of the Legend Pro’s four built-in technologies, does use ultra-thin microneedles to deliver radiofrequency energy into the skin. In that sense, RF microneedling is part of what the Legend Pro can do. But calling it a “microneedling treatment” is like calling a smartphone a calculator. Technically accurate, but it misses the point.
The Legend Pro platform includes four distinct RF technologies, each designed to treat a different layer or concern:
- TriPollar® RF uses three poles of radiofrequency energy (instead of the standard one or two) to heat the deeper dermis. It’s FDA-cleared for skin tightening, wrinkle reduction and facial contouring, and it’s the only FDA-cleared tri-polar device in the U.S.
- VoluDerm™ delivers RF through microneedle electrodes into the mid-dermis. It’s effective for acne scarring, pore refinement, fine lines and overall skin texture improvement.
- TriFractional™ is a fractional RF resurfacing handpiece for more aggressive treatment of wrinkles, sun damage and uneven texture. Expect a few days of downtime with this one.
- Dynamic Muscle Activation™ (DMA) uses electrical stimulation to activate and condition underlying muscles. When paired with TriPollar RF, it becomes the platform’s body contouring workhorse, combining muscle stimulation with RF-based skin tightening and contouring for a firmer, more defined shape.
In a single session, the Ayala team can combine two or three of these modalities to address multiple concerns at once. Or they can use one in isolation for a targeted treatment with virtually no downtime.
Why Does Having Multiple Technologies in One Platform Matter?
Skin doesn’t age in one layer, and different concerns do not always respond to the same type of treatment.
Sun damage tends to sit closer to the surface, while laxity and collagen loss involve deeper layers of tissue. The same patient may be dealing with rough texture on the cheeks, softening along the jawline and crepiness on the neck, each of which may call for a different treatment approach. Those concerns are related, but they are not identical, and treating them all the same way can limit what a provider is able to accomplish.
That is where a multi-technology platform becomes useful. Instead of relying on one treatment mode for every area, Legend Pro gives the provider different tools to work at different depths and target different concerns within the same overall treatment plan.
“The biggest misconception patients have about nonsurgical treatments is that one device handles everything,” says Dr. Ayala. “Skin concerns are layered, so treatments should be, too.”
For patients, that can mean a more customized plan built around what each area actually needs.
So, What Can the Legend Pro Treat?
Legend Pro is a head-to-toe platform that can address a wide range of patient needs. At Ayala ENT & Aesthetics, our team selects the most effective combination of technology for each concern, each area and each desired outcome.
Face & Neck Treatments
On the face and neck, Legend Pro can address fine lines, mild to moderate skin laxity, enlarged pores, uneven texture, acne scarring and early jowling. The TriPollar and VoluDerm combination (sometimes called the Legend M² protocol) is a popular pairing for full-face rejuvenation. TriFractional resurfacing is available for patients who want a more aggressive correction and are comfortable with a few days of downtime.
Body Contouring
The DMA and TriPollar handpieces can be used to achieve firmer body contours. Common treatment areas include the upper arms, abdomen, love handles, inner thighs, the area above the knees and under the chin. The DMA handpiece can break down fat cells through RF heating while simultaneously tightening the overlying skin, which is something most body contouring treatments can’t do.
Cellulite Reduction
The TriPollar handpiece in particular is effective for cellulite because it stimulates collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production in the dermal layer. A typical course runs four to five sessions, and results develop gradually as the skin’s structural support rebuilds from the inside.
Skin Maintenance
For patients who aren’t trying to correct a specific concern but want to stay ahead of the visible signs of aging or sun damage, the Legend Pro’s gentler settings make it a practical maintenance tool. It pairs well with injectables, PRP therapy or other treatments that are already part of your regular skincare routine.
How Does the Legend Pro Compare to Other Treatments?
As a body contouring system, RF microneedling device, and so much more, patients often ask us how it stacks up against other treatments.

Legend Pro vs. Morpheus8
Morpheus8 is a strong treatment option for patients with moderate skin laxity, deeper acne scars, or those who need more aggressive subdermal remodeling. It penetrates deeper than VoluDerm and can achieve more dramatic tightening in fewer sessions.
The Legend Pro’s advantage is versatility: it can deliver a gentler, no-downtime treatment for the patient who wants maintenance, or it can be pushed toward more aggressive settings for someone who wants resurfacing. It’s also the better choice for body contouring, where its DMA and TriPollar technologies have capabilities that Morpheus8 doesn’t offer.
In many cases, Dr. Ayala’s team uses the Legend Pro and Morpheus8 in complementary treatment plans rather than choosing one over the other.
Legend Pro vs. CoolSculpting
This is an apples-to-oranges comparison, but patients make it constantly.
CoolSculpting freezes and eliminates fat cells. It does not tighten skin. The Legend Pro can reduce fat (via the DMA handpiece) while simultaneously tightening the skin above it.
For patients whose primary concern is loose skin with a small amount of resistant fat, the Legend Pro typically makes more sense. For patients who have good skin elasticity but want pure fat reduction, CoolSculpting may still be the better fit.
The other key difference is that CoolSculpting is a passive treatment. The applicators are placed, and the machine is left to run its cycle. With Legend Pro, the provider stays actively engaged throughout treatment, guiding the device along your natural curves and contours for more personalized results.
Why McAllen Patients Choose Ayala ENT & Aesthetics for Nonsurgical Skin Tightening
Nonsurgical skin tightening has grown fast. The global market reached an estimated $1.5 billion in 2025 and is projected to hit $3.9 billion by 2034, according to IMARC Group. Radiofrequency devices account for roughly 35% of that market, per P&S Market Research. That means more patients are paying attention to this category, and more providers are investing in it.
When treatments surge in popularity, who’s recommending it and why deserves more scrutiny. Ayala ENT & Facial Plastic Surgery carries the Legend Pro alongside Morpheus8, FaceTite, AccuTite and a full surgical menu. When Dr. Ayala’s team recommends the Legend Pro for a patient, it’s because they’ve weighed it against every other option in the practice and decided it’s the right fit.
“When you have multiple tools available, you’re not trying to make one device work for every patient,” says Dr. Ayala. “You’re choosing the right one for each situation.” For patients, this can make the consultation feel less like shopping for a device and more like building a plan around the result they actually want.

Legend Pro FAQs
How many Legend Pro treatments will I need?
It depends on the concern and which technologies your provider selects. VoluDerm typically requires three to five sessions. TriPollar treatments run four to six sessions. The combination protocol (Legend M²) averages four to five. Dr. Ayala’s team builds a treatment plan during your consultation based on what your skin actually needs.
Is Legend Pro safe for darker skin tones?
Yes. Radiofrequency targets water in the tissue rather than melanin, which means it doesn’t carry the same risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation that some laser-based treatments do. It’s safe across all Fitzpatrick skin types, which makes it a strong option for the Valley’s predominantly Latino patient population.
Are Legend Pro treatments painful?
Most patients describe the VoluDerm handpiece as a mild vibration with a warm sensation. The ultra-thin needles are heated by the RF energy, which helps them pass through the skin more easily than traditional microneedles. On a pain scale of one to 10, most patients land around a four or five. Numbing cream is available but often unnecessary. The TriPollar handpiece involves no needles at all and feels like a warm massage.
Can RF microneedling cause facial fat loss?
This concern comes up often on social media. The VoluDerm needles penetrate to a controlled depth of one millimeter, targeting the mid-dermis well above the fat layer. The device also has built-in safety features that prevent the pulse from firing unless the handpiece is positioned correctly. When performed by an experienced provider who understands facial anatomy, the risk of unintended fat loss is minimal.
How long does a Legend Pro treatment take?
Individual technologies run about 15 to 20 minutes each. A combination session using TriPollar and VoluDerm together takes roughly 30 minutes. Most patients are in and out within an hour, and there’s no downtime required for the majority of treatment protocols. TriFractional resurfacing is the exception, with two to three days of recovery.
